Oh-Dub's members, Blank Space & strong.cottonwoods, first met as battling rivals in '05 while vying for positions on Victoria's inaugural SLAM Poetry team. Their subsequent collaborations led to the formation of OW & The National Microphone Association (NMA), an independent artists' record label/distribution network. Since embarking on an epic zero-budget coast-to-coast tour in '06 to promote their debut album, From Our Cold Dead Hands, The Outspoken Wordsmiths have delivered their vernacular activism to receptive audiences in a diverse variety of venues between Victoria and Halifax. From basement punk shows to poetry events, political benefits to underground raves, high school performances to hiphop bar shows, crowds can't get enough of the Outspoken Wordsmiths' unpredictable stage chemistry & energetic vernacular activism. ============================================================= We finished the !FORBIDDEN TEXTS! Tour (march 28th '09 - August 9th '09); playing 67 shows in 33 cities!! thanks to all of those involved. Those who came out to a show. the few who put a show on for us! Housed us, offered a listening ear, bought a CD from us or food for us. Thank you all!! ================================================================ We are currently preparing for our up & coming 'EMPOWERMENT' tour from San Diego, CA to Vancouver, BC with TESTAMENT & ILLOGIK from the Raised Fist Collective (an anarchist hip hop collective based in sountern Ontario)!!!!!!we are working out the details. we need more shows to be confirmed! if you can connect us with someone booking shows on the West Coast of Turtle Island, please do!!!! Our intention is to stop in as many cities as possible between January 7th and February 7th (we've got apx 18 cities on our list at the moment, playing and promoting live shows, house parties, Festivals, and in-the-streets performances. We will do all of this while supporting ourselves as independent artists by, performing & selling our DIY merchandise – self-recorded/produced CDs, self-published books, 'zines and patches. If your interested in helping support us please come to a show ( & bring your friends:) and/or get some merch of ours (especially our new full length album "Infinite Potential") We're definitely still looking to network with friends, and friends-of-friends who are interested in assisting us with booking, promotion, billeting, transportation, and the various other details we'll need to manage to make this all happen. This could include: booking gigs, hosting a house party, postering or flyering, transportation (helping us find a ride to the next city, or helping us get gear to a gig), putting us in touch with like-minded local artists, letting us crash in your living room, informing us of opportunities to sell our wares (consignment / vending / events), acting as a city guide, informing us of local open mics and similar events, hooking us up with access to free Internet or photocopies… We're also looking to team up with local artists to share stages/audiences/jam space with!
